I've got a 1993 Savage.
The Suzuki owners manual says to change the oil and filter every 3,500 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first.
My Clymer manual is for the 1986-1988 4 speed engine. It says change every 4,000 miles.
Although regular oil changes are essential, I don't think there is anything to be gained by changing the oil more frequently than recommended.
